Fans Back For Darwin
Supercars is set for another comeback milestone in Darwin.
After a highly successful return to racing at Sydney Motorsport Park, spectators will be back for Hidden Valley in August.
The good news in the Top End comes despite some uncertainty over the situation with the next scheduled event at Winton in Victoria.
Football codes are facing disruptions to their calendars as some states dig-in over the spike in fresh COVID-19 cases in the southern state, even enforcing quarantines, and the AFL and NRL have been one of the pointers to the Supercars situation.
Even so, the COVID situation in Darwin has been stable for some time and this has allowed the Territory’s government to allow 4500 spectators into Hidden Valley on each day.
“The program will be different this year but fans are guaranteed plenty of action on the track,” says the Territory’s Minister for Tourism, Sport and Culture, Lauren Moss.
“The BetEasy Darwin Triple Crown is the biggest event on the Top End’s dry season calendar and the fact it can go ahead with spectators this year is incredible.”
Exact details on how the meeting will run, with social distancing and the impact of teams from Queensland, NSW and Victoria, but some things are already clear.
Spectators will be encouraged to bring a personal picnic, as food outlets will be limited, and there will also be changes to the merchandise area. There will be no support categories or concerts and the paddock area will be quarantined for teams and officials.
The popular transporter convoy will run again, but will not stop in Darwin’s CBD.
“Thanks to the Northern Territory government, we are now at the stage where we are able to take the next step on the journey back to normal racing,” says Sean Seamer, CEO of Supercars.
“This is certainly a positive milestone for us and we are thrilled that this year’s Darwin Triple Crown will be run in front of our supporters. The past few months have been tough on everyone, and we have worked hard behind the scenes to get our Championship back up and running and, importantly, getting fans back trackside.”
The new release of tickets for Hidden Valley go on sale this morning (June 30) and priority will go to Territorians who have already purchased tickets, with a 48-hour window before the tickets are opened up to anyone.
