HOT SHOTS: Nice new surface.

"It's JetBlack, mate. It does the job. It's brilliant," says Paul Morris, talking about the shiny new look at his Norwell Motorplex in Queensland.

The track surface at the cradle of pace, which has been used to train the latest generation of Supercars stars including Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown, is part of a regular maintenance program.

Ironically, it's tied to RAAF Base Amberley, which uses a similar coating to protect the runways.

The spray-on treatment revitalises and locks-in the fine stones in the asphalt, preventing the sort of long-term erosion that usually degrades the surface at a high-performance track.

It would be ideal, says Morris, to combat the deterioration at Sydney Motorsport Pack that always becomes a talking point when the Supercars circus arrives.

"It's like putting make-up on a sheila. And it's like sunscreen," Morris jokes.

"Every track should be doing this. It extends the life of the asphalt by 10 to 15 years."
