Race Rap: Monday, May 5

Kimi is quick. It didn't take long for Kimi Antonelli to find his feet in Formula One, as he blitzed the field to take pole position for the Sprint at the Miami Grand Prix. He became the youngest pole sitter in grand prix history at 18 years, 8 months and 7 days to take the honour from Sebastian Vettel. But he was only seventh in the Sprint after rain shuffled the deck in favour of Lando Norris at McLaren, although he was solid in sixth in the grand prix on Sunday.

Old is new again. The former motorsport boss at GM-Holden, Simon McNamara, is returning to Supercars. He will become the GM competition boss as part of the shake-up which has also seen Team 18 taking over as the Homologation Team for the Camaro camp.

Three from four in IndyCar. Alex Palou continued his romp through the early stages of the 2025 IndyCar season with a dominant win at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, his third from four starts, as Scott McLaughlin came home third and Will Power was fifth. “I was a bit lonely there, but I loved it. It was an amazing day," said Palou.

Another tough one. Trackhouse Racing was celebrating after the latest NASCAR contest at Texas Motor Speedway as Ross Chastain was narrowly beaten into second place, but Shane van Gisbergen could only manage 22nd. “A decent finish today. Just wasn’t comfortable with the car there at the start and struggled to find speed. We will learn from this and continue to make improvements," said SvG.

Flat-out at SMP. Jadyn Ojeda didn't win in the GT3 battles at Sydney Motorsport, but the young Mercedes-AMG hot-shoe still managed something special. He went absolutely flat through Turn 1, not even a whiff of a lift, as his Mercedes-AMG GT achieved a minimum corner speed of 249km/h.

Stoner stars again. He's been retired for quite a while but that is not stopping Netflix from shining the spotlight - again - on Casey Stoner. It is producing what is described as a 'Deep-Dive Documentary: A Raw, Unfiltered Journey Through the Highs, Lows, and Fierce Determination That Made Him One of the Sport’s Most Beloved and Misunderstood Champions'.

Whoopsie in Portugal. Preparations for the next leg of the World Rally Championship did not go as planned for Taylor Gill and Daniel Brkic. This is how the youngsters' run in a Portuguese National Rally ended.
